Tom's Micro Office & Hobby Room

When Tom’s new job required him to split his time between York and home, working from the dining table quickly lost its appeal. With three children and no spare rooms to convert, he needed a practical,  yet peaceful, solution that could separate home life from work life.

That's when he found a Cabin Master garden office, designed to fit perfectly on an unused patio at the bottom of the garden. Built to be fully insulated and comfortable all year round, the cabin has become more than just a workspace — it’s also where Tom unwinds with his hobby of scale modelling and even spends quality time with his son.

What started as a way to improve his work-from-home setup has grown into a calm, creative retreat that’s completely transformed how he works, creates and relaxes. We caught up with Tom to hear more about his Cabin Master journey...

A Space for Work, Creativity & Calm

“Whether I’m working or at the hobby bench, it’s just a nice, restful environment. Everything about it is a joy.”

Tom’s garden room has transformed how he works from home, giving him structure during the workday and a calm, creative outlet in the evenings.

With its bespoke design, insulated build and stylish finish, this multi-use garden office has turned an unused patio into the most productive and peaceful part of the home.

Find the Right Garden Room

Tom’s search began with a few online comparisons. While some companies offered flat-pack cabins or limited-size options, none could provide the quality and insulation he needed for year-round use.

“The option of having something I could use all year round was top of the priority list — that’s why Cabin Master stood out.”

After one visit to our Nottingham show site, Tom knew it was the right choice. Our design team quickly designed his ideas, adjusting the layout to suit both his desk area and creative workspace.

I told the team exactly what I wanted in terms of size and configuration — they put it straight into a CAD model, and it was done within minutes. The price was absolutely spot on, too.”

How is your garden office cabin used day-to-day?

"I’m in here probably two to three days a week for work, usually from nine to five. It’s my own little office away from the chaos of the house, quiet, warm, and comfortable all year round. The space is ideal for Teams meetings and calls with clients, and people always comment on the background with my bookcases and plants. It just feels professional without losing that sense of home.

Outside of work hours, it becomes a completely different space. I’ve got my modelling setup on one side, where I spend time in the evenings building scale models. My son’s got into it too, so sometimes we’ll work together out here, it’s a nice way to wind down without screens, just doing something creative."

How would you describe your Cabin Master experience?

"From the very first visit, it felt easy. The team listened to exactly what I wanted and made it happen. The whole process,  from design to installation, was smooth and stress-free.

It’s honestly been life-changing in a small but meaningful way. Whether I’m working, relaxing, or spending time with my son, this cabin just makes life that little bit better."
