John's Art Studio & Writing Room

John is a freelance journalist and has been specialising in health policy for 40 years. He found Cabin Master when he needed to replace an unsuitable structure in his garden with a modern, purpose-built building for art and office work. We designed, manufactured and installed his bespoke 6m x 3m garden building with Marley composite cladding at his home in Leamington Spa.

Why Invest In A Garden Office & Art Room?

"When we moved into this house 9 years ago, there was a structure in the garden, which was basically two sheds together, or a large workshop. So, I converted it into a garden office and a space to do my painting and my art as well. But, it was a very unsatisfactory structure. The floor wasn't level. There were all kinds of problems with it, and then we detected rot, and we needed to replace it.

Cabin Master was interesting, not least because it was relatively local. We could get to a show site and actually see the buildings. And we saw one exactly the same size as the one we wanted. What was particularly attractive about this was the size of the windows, giving a lot of light for the art. When you're painting, natural light makes a big difference to be able to actually judge the precise colours that you're using."

How Do You Use Your Garden Room?

"I can't remember a day I haven't used it in the last 6 months when we've been at home. When I come to do a bit of writing, I come to work, you know, because I come out of the house, I walk down the garden, and I'm in my office, and I'm in a work area. And then when I get back and into the house, then I'm relaxing at home."

"Normally I'm working in the sun in my office. I'm working on a book. So, I'm getting my files out and working there. It's an all purpose office. And all the time when I want to, I can play my music and my wife isn't going to tell me to turn it down because I'm out in the garden!"

What Are The Benefits of Having A Dedicated Office / Art Space?

“Being able to leave a mess as an artist is quite important, you know, not having to feel obliged to constantly be clearing your art and equipment away. It's my space, and I can choose where I put stuff. And it's the same with if I've opened a book to get a reference for the writing. I don't have to put it away and tidy up. So, it is useful to have a space that's definitely for the purpose. I quite like that. I mean, I like the fact that the garden office looks good, but it's not primarily to look good. It's primarily to live in and to use everyday!"

Every component we use in our Cabin Master rooms is guaranteed for quality and durability. Each building comes with a 10-year workmanship and labour guarantee, plus the guarantees of each individual component or building material included. Below are some typical examples:

Quality standards

To build our insulated garden rooms, we make use of only the best raw materials and building components, and fully qualified local contractors.

  • Timber: Forest Stewardship Council-approved timber suppliers.
  • Roofing: For flat roofs, we use high-performance EPDM rubber roofing. For sloping roofs we use Kerbit SBS roofing shingles.
  • Doors & Windows: Double glazed, energy efficient uPVC doors and windows for peak energy efficiency.
  • Insulation: High quality silver-backed foam insulation from Celotex, Kingspan, Extratherm or similar.
  • Finishing: FSC approved MDF interior boards with Neatmatch damp resistant coating.

Bespoke designs

Our design team are on hand to turn your new garden room vision into a reality. Your ideas and sketches are transformed into a 3D drawing, which is then perfected until you are 100% happy. The design is then sent to our factory, where your new building is manufactured.

Delivery & installation

When you order your new garden room, we will arrange a convenient delivery and installation schedule, with an affordable quote tailored to your needs. The cost of delivery and fitting depends on the size of your building, where you live, the transportation distance and how many people you need to set up your building.
