What Do I Need For A Home Photography Studio?

If you need more space or have to accommodate larger productions, we can easily craft a custom garden studio for you. We have extensive experience when it comes to building custom garden studios, so there is no need to worry about special considerations when you deal with Cabin Master.

The ideal home photography studio will have lighting options that adapt to the theme of your shoot. Cabin Master’s bespoke home photography studios can be installed with blackout blinds to allow you to stop unnecessary light from entering the room, or to allow for more natural light where necessary.

A basic home photography studio should also include the following gear to allow for full versatility and light control:

  • Lights -Your studio should have a minimum of 1 light and 1 reflector.
  • Flash Trigger - a flash trigger will allow you to control your flash remotely, meaning you can directly control your lighting.
  • Lighting Modifiers - A reflector and umbrella are necessary to modify the light to the needs of your shoot.
  • Light Stands - Once you have purchased lights, you should also get adjustable light stands to allow for better control over directional light in your studio.
  • Backdrop - A backdrop will allow you to create neutral backgrounds for your photography, providing a single colour background which is easier to edit than any other background.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Set Up A Photography Studio At Home?

Setting up a Photography Studio at home can be pretty straight forward. Most people either use a room in their home, convert a garage or add in a Photography Studio within their garden.

At Cabin Master you have the flexibility to choose the exact size you need, internal partitions to creating 'zones' or add in a changing room or props cupboard!

How Do I Light A Home Photography Studio?

Knowing what style of Photography you are concentrating on will help when planning your Photography Studio and the lighting you require.

If you are shooting with natural light then the position of the studio is key to allow light in. If you are having a Photo Studio built then the amount of glass - windows and doors - you add in will help create the best balance of light. Sheer curtains or drapes can make the perfect diffuser!

If you are shooting a controlled lighting set up then the amount of plug sockets and their locations within the room need to be planned out well before you start.

Cabin Master designers can help you drop in equipment on your design drawings so nothing is left to chance.

How Tall Can My Home Photography Studio Be?

If you are using a room within the home you are governed by the internal height of the structure you have.  With a purpose built home photography studio you can decide to have up to 3m high internally. This will allow for lighting booms and larger backdrop systems.

Always read up on Permitted Development rules as taller buildings need to be placed further away from your boundary lines.
