When Becky and Ben moved back to the UK after living abroad, they knew they needed more than just extra space - they needed somewhere that could work as hard as they did. Ben wanted a quiet, dedicated garden office for working from home, and Becky was looking for a way to keep teaching without being in a classroom full-time. "We knew we couldn't afford to get an extension or convert the garage or do anything like that, so this was maybe a cheaper alternative to get an extra big space. We'd looked at these garden cabin things at our local garden centre, but they were just like glorified sheds! How is the garden tutoring cabin used with your pupils?

"From the moment the children walk in the room, they see the array of chairs that they will choose and then they'll bring it up to the desk. It's great having the different sections of the cabin as well, so we'll start at the desk, but then we might do part of our work on the rug. Or we may go to the sofa afterwards to read a new book. We kind of move about, but dependent on the individual child, depends how the room is used. The cabin is just totally different to the classroom. I don't know if it's the ceilings or the wood, but it just feels safe inside. The parents as well, so often there's quite a lot of conversations that I'll have to have with parents at the time that are quite intimate or personal, about their child's development or about setting special needs. It does give off a feeling of that being relaxed as well, which is important."

How has the garden tutoring cabin impacted your life overall?

"We like to have movie nights or watch the rugby. Trying to get us all to watch one thing is almost impossible, so as sad as it is sometimes we have to separate. So some are in here and some are in the house. I think between the two of us, we probably spend more time out here than actually in the house. So often, we get lots of comments from friends and family to say, 'What an amazing space.' It's really great to enjoy that."

"It's been kind of life-changing really. I always feel quite excited when I come out here into my garden room. ' But also your head's clear when you're out here. You're looking out onto the garden, you're away from the dishwasher and the washing and all the other things that I've left inside and closed the door on. So to come out here, I just feel clear-headed, and have a lot of fun thrown in as well!"
